Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" 2023 from Domaine Nicole Lamarche
Tasting Notes
Appearance
This red wine reveals a transparent, rather pale ruby hue, reflecting a particularly delicate extraction.
Nose
Especially expressive and refined, the bouquet exudes aromas of wild red berries, black cherry and ripe raspberry. The whole is elevated by floral touches of lily of the valley and violet, along with fine spicy notes reminiscent of sandalwood and licorice.
Palate
From the very first sip, the wine reveals a velvety, silky texture, supported by remarkably fine tannins. Perfectly integrated acidity brings lively energy to this generous palate, marked by red and black fruit aromas. The finish, remarkably long, reveals a restrained power and a lingering elegance.
Food and Wine Pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with fine meats such as a duck tournedos Rossini-style, a fine cut of beef or veal. It will also pair beautifully with game dishes like venison or hare, plant-based recipes centered on mushrooms and truffle, or soft-ripened, washed-rind cheeses.
Serving and Aging
To fully appreciate the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at around 16°C, after decanting for one to two hours. While it already offers great pleasure in its youth thanks to some aeration, this wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared until around 2045.
The Elegance and Purity of a Great Premier Cru from Vosne-Romanée
The Estate
Officially founded in 1797, Domaine Nicole Lamarche is an iconic estate located in the heart of Burgundy. Spanning just over 11 hectares, this family-run domaine is now brilliantly led by Nicole Lamarche, who took over from her father François. Renowned for her environmentally respectful approach and her quest for purity, the winemaker crafts wines of remarkable finesse. The estate is notably famous for holding the monopoly of the grand cru La Grande Rue, further cementing its essential status on the Côte de Nuits.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the "Les Chaumes" climat, a prestigious terroir in Vosne-Romanée located at the bottom of the slope, just below the famous plots of La Tâche and Malconsorts. Facing east to benefit from the morning sun, the vines thrive on deep clay-limestone soils offering excellent drainage. The vineyard is farmed according to certified organic principles, complemented by biodynamic practices, in order to preserve biodiversity and soil vitality.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes destined for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Chaumes" 2023 are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted both in the vineyard and at the winery. After partial destemming, fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled tanks, with a very gentle extraction favoring light punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is then aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, about 30% of which are new. Finally, bottling is carried out without any fining or filtration to preserve the wine's aromatic integrity.
