Description
A full-bodied and delicate red wine from the Rhône Valley
The estate
François Villard, an emblematic winemaker from the Rhône Valley, founded his estate in 1989 in Condrieu. Today, he cultivates 40 hectares of vineyards, with a viticultural approach focused on organic farming and sustainable practices. His wines, mainly made from grape varieties such as viognier and syrah, stand out for their balance between opulence and elegance.
The vineyard
Le Gallet Blanc is a Côte-Rôtie wine from parcels located in the municipalities of Ampuis and Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, on renowned places such as Le Plomb, Côté Bodin, Le Grand Taillis, Fontjean, Montlys, Servonnière and Le Mont. The vines, about 20 years old, are planted on decomposed quartzite shale soils. Facing south and southeast, these parcels benefit from optimal sunlight, promoting perfect maturity of the syrah.
Vinification and aging
The harvest is carried out manually with a rigorous selection of the grapes. The vinification favors 80% whole bunches, enhancing the aromatic complexity and structure of the wine. Fermentation takes place over 13 days in open wooden and stainless steel vats. The aging extends over 18 months in barrels, including 15% new barrels, allowing a harmonious integration of the wood.
Grape variety
Le Gallet Blanc 2021 from François Villard is a 100% syrah.
