Vinum

Discreet nose, then spicy and pronounced; powerful attack, dense, firm structure, with firm yet well-integrated tannins, offering the necessary freshness and verve, long finish of black berries; a full-bodied, well-crafted wine.

Decanter

Bramble fruit on the nose. This is light and juicy, a touch high-toned. Perhaps a tiny bit of bitterness on the fruit, but lovely strawberry and raspberry. Acidity gives life and lift, and this has a pleasant menthol minty element that cools the finish. A lighter style.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby red, purple hues, some brightening on the rim. Fresh orange zest, some nougat, a hint of blackberry confit. Medium-bodied, a touch bitter on the palate, firm tannins, dark nougat on the finish, a powerful aftertaste, rustic, good with food.

Unfussy, sweet raspberry fruit, a little rustic but enjoyable and approachable.

Yves Beck

Fresh, fruity bouquet with black-berry aromas followed by menthol notes. Lush and juicy on the palate. The wine is moreish, well-balanced, and fresh. It’s very glou-glou and will bring lunchtime wine back into fashion!

Description

The refinement and aromatic power of a Second Wine from the Haut-Médoc appellation

The estate

The property of the Merlaut family since 2005, Château de Camensac is an estate built in the 18th century in the Haut-Médoc, on the left bank of Bordeaux. This 1855 5th Grand Cru Classé has undergone major investments, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, which have enabled the estate to equip itself with the tools it needs. Château de Camensac now stands out as an essential name among the great wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank.

The vineyard

An unmissable reference among Haut-Médoc wines, the Château de Camensac vineyard stretches across 86 hectares on two different types of soil: the Günzian gravel found in Saint-Julien and the Villefranchian gravel found in Pessac-Léognan. It is these two types of soil that gives the estate's wines their unique quality.

The wine

La Closerie de Camensac is Château de Camensac’s Second Wine.

The vintage

The cold winter with low rainfall was followed by dry weather in February and March. Between April and June, heavy rainfall was combined with a few nights of frost (in May) causing some damage to the buds and slowing down flowering. These difficult conditions were counterbalanced by extreme heat throughout July. The weather conditions in August and September were normal and allowed for the harvesting of good quality grapes, the guarantee of a great vintage.

Winemaking and ageing

After being vinified in vats, the wine was aged in barrels.

Blend

Merlot (70%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (30%)
