James Suckling

A fresh and linear red with crushed stones, menthol and dark berries and plums. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a linear finish. Second wine of Giscours. Drink in 2023.

Antonio Galloni

The 2016 La Sirène de Giscours is a very pretty second wine from Giscours. Pliant, supple and inviting, the 2016 has so much to offer, including a level of pure immediacy that will make it nearly impossible to resist. Floral overtones and silky tannins add to the wine's considerable allure. There is so much to like here.

Give this beauty 5 years in the cellar and you will be amply rewarded with loads of sweet, ripe, fresh red fruits, a bushel of fresh-picked flowers, cedar and tobacco notes in the nose, and the fresh, lifted sensation of sweet dark cherries on the palate. This is a very strong second wine that will age for at least another 10-15 years with ease.

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, subtle edge brightening. Some nougat, ripe cherry fruit, tobacco, clear herbal savouriness in the background. Red berries on the palate, fresh structure, integrated tannins, lemony-mineral finish, offers uncomplicated drinking pleasure.

Yves Beck

Medium garnet-red with violet highlights. The bouquet is of good intensity, with floral and fruity notes. On the palate, the wine is light. It shows little fruit and the finish is marked by bitterness. I’m surprised that Giscours doesn’t do better with its second wine.

Description

A fresh and fruity Margaux Second Wine

The estate

Located on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Giscours is a historic property in the Margaux appellation, with vines first planted in the 16th century. This superb Margaux 3rd Cru Classé is a true flagship of the Bordeaux region, with its distinctive neoclassical palace architecture, its park of rare species and its buildings, including the beautiful "Ferme Suzanne." Since 1995, Château Giscours has entered a new era in its history following its acquisition by the Albada Jelgersma family.

The vineyard

The Château Giscours vineyard covers 95 hectares of vines in production, out of a total of 300 hectares. A real jewel in the crown of the Margaux appellation, the special feature of the Château Giscours terroir lies in the presence of 3 deep Garonne gravel hilltops, which play a decisive role in the grapes' ripening cycle.

The wine

La Sirène de Giscours is Château Giscours’ Second Wine
