Description
The suppleness and smoothness of a Saint-Joseph white wine
The estate
Located 60 kilometres south of Lyon, on the high slopes of the commune of Limony, Domaine Louis Chèze is a jewel of the right bank of the Rhône. Founded in 1978 by Louis Chèze, this family-run estate continues to thrive in the foothills of the northern Côtes du Rhône. Mr Chèze began his winemaking venture with a humble hectare of Saint-Joseph and a few rented vines. The estate now extends to the prestigious Condrieu and Saint-Joseph appellations.
The vineyard
The Domaine Louis Chèze is located on the heights of Limony, offering a breathtaking view over the Rhône Valley. It benefits from a mosaic of terroirs, ranging from granite slopes to softer plateaux. The vineyard is managed in a sustainable way, with particular attention paid to de-budding and green harvesting to guarantee the quality of the fruit.
The wine
Ro-Rée, produced since the 1990 vintage, is a Saint-Joseph wine that bears witness to the richness of its terroir. The name of this cuvée means "oak tree" or "little oak tree" in the Ardèche dialect, paying homage to the oak trees that line the plot.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are carefully sorted by hand and gathered in 30 kg crates. The grapes are then sorted on a vibrating table, pressed and settled. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in barrels, with stirring on the lees. The wine is then aged in barrels, 20% of which are new and 80% of which are two or three wines, for 8 to 10 months. The wine is bottled without filtration.
