The elegance of a great Nuits-Saint-Georges by Louis Latour
The estate
Established in Burgundy, the family-run House of Louis Latour was founded in 1768 when it settled in Aloxe-Corton. Today, this world-renowned brand is led by the twelfth generation, notably with Eléonore Latour heading up strategy. The estate spans 48 hectares, comprising the largest area of Grands Crus in the region with 27 hectares. A keen advocate of sustainable agriculture certified ISO 14001, this independent producer also stands out for its unique expertise: it is the only Burgundian winegrower to own its own cooperage to craft its barrels.
The vineyard
Located in the northern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, just south of the prestigious Vosne-Romanée terroirs, the Damodes climat benefits from a fine east-facing exposure. The vines, around thirty years old on average, thrive on shallow soils of clay-limestone nature. This specific terroir, cultivated with controlled yields of around 40 hectolitres per hectare, is entirely hand-harvested in order to preserve the quality and integrity of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
The crafting of the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Damodes" 2011 begins with a traditional fermentation carried out in open vats, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation. The wine then benefits from a meticulous aging of 10 to 12 months. This maturation takes place in French oak barrels with medium toasting, made by the House's own cooperage, incorporating a proportion of 40% new wood to support the wine without masking the expression of its terroir.
Grape variety
This wine is crafted exclusively from 100% Pinot Noir.
