Located on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, between the Margaux and Saint-Julien appellations, in the Haut-Médoc AOC, Château Malescasse was built in 1824. Head of Lafont-Rochet in Saint-Estèphe and Pontet-Canet in Pauillac, Guy Tesseron bought Château Malescasse in 1970.
Guy Tesseron undertook a major restoration of the vines and the cellars, restoring Château Malescasse to the glory and prestige it deserved. By 1992, Château Malescasse had grown to 40 hectares of vines. After being bought by the Alcatel-Alsthom group, Château Malescasse became the property of Philippe Austry. Seeing Château Malescasse’s potential, Philippe Austry undertook major renovation work. Nothing was left to chance, from the restructuring of the vineyards to the winery and the superb charter house. Château Malescasse is now one of the jewels in the crown of the Haut-Médoc.
With 40 hectares of vines in a single block, Château Malescasse enjoys an exceptional terroir consisting of groups of gravel dating from the Quaternary period, made up of sand, gravel and clay. These poor, well-drained soils encourage the ideal ripening of the grape varieties.
Complex, powerful, elegant and with great ageing potential, the wines of Château Malescasse are the very epitome of the Haut-Médoc crus.
