The richness and depth of a uniquely aged Guatemalan rum

The brand: Ron Zacapa

Since 1976, the 100th anniversary of the founding of its namesake city, the Ron Zacapa estate has established itself as a benchmark among the greatest rum producers beyond borders. The name Zacapa originates from the Nahuatl (Aztec) language, meaning "on the river of grass". Located in the heart of Guatemala, the estate showcases its expertise in a truly original and unique way through a range of exceptional ron (rum).

Lorena Vásquez, one of the few female cellar masters in the world of spirits, has been crafting the Zacapa style since 1982, from blending to aging, to reveal a range of rums with inimitable flavors.

A great terroir for sugar cane cultivation

The Zacapa distillery oversees a Guatemalan terroir with volcanic soil, rich in minerals and crossed by numerous rivers. This terroir, ideal for the cultivation of sugar cane, owes its uniqueness to the aromatic depth it imparts during the creation of these high-quality rums.

An exceptional rum presented in a sustainable and elegant box

The Ron Zacapa 23 is to be (re)discovered in a durable wooden box that, like a puzzle, disassembles into several pieces and transforms into 6 coasters with refined details. This iconic reference at the origin of the creation of Ron Zacapa has benefited from a unique blend of rums aged 6 to 23 years.

Moreover, its bottle is belted with a fine petate weave made by Guatemalan women, allowing them to generate income to face the various crises the country has gone through. Currently, 700 women weave and give the Zacapa bottle this Guatemalan authenticity.

A spirit resulting from a masterful elaboration and aging process

The Ron Zacapa 23 is made using an aging process similar to the "solera" method, in which rums of different ages and profiles are blended, then aged in a succession of barrels. Each barrel has a story and a role in the development of Zacapa rum. The first ones were used for storing American whiskeys, the second ones contained sherry, and the last ones held Pedro Ximenez wines aged 21 years in the oak barrels of Château Lagrange.

This aging process takes place at high altitude (2,300 meters). The cool, humid mountain air allows the rum to age gently while developing its unique taste identity.
