Description
The vibrancy and elegance of a great French whisky
The brand: Domaine des Hautes Glaces
The vision of Domaine des Hautes Glaces was born from a desire to return to the roots, to rediscover traditional methods while innovating and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Respect for the land and traditions lies at the heart of their philosophy, making Domaine des Hautes Glaces a benchmark in the world of French whisky.
The terroir: a natural jewel
Located at over 900 meters above sea level, Domaine des Hautes Glaces benefits from an exceptional terroir. Rich, diverse soils combined with a mountain microclimate provide ideal conditions for growing barley and rye. Pure mountain waters, filtered through Alpine rock, impart a distinctive mineral touch to each whisky. The estate’s biodiversity—with its forests, meadows, and rivers—plays a key role in crafting great French whiskies.
The rigor and precision of a French distillery
This French distillery’s approach to producing Single Malt Whisky and Single Grain Whisky is formal, educational, enjoyable, and fluid. It all begins in the fields, where organic farming is favored. After harvest, the grains are malted on-site in an artisanal malt house. Fermentation is carried out naturally, without the addition of industrial yeasts. This preserves the unique characteristics of the grains and the terroir.
Flavis 2016
Flavis is a special edition specifically from the Andrieu climat, bottled in March 2017. This French whisky was aged for just over 5 years before being further matured for an additional 2 years in Vin Jaune casks.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions for Flavis 2016 from Domaine des Hautes Glaces
Tasting
Appearance
The color of this whisky is a beautiful amber hue.
Nose
Delicate and sophisticated, it reveals aromas of malt, toasted bread, and toasted nuts. With aeration, spicy and pastry notes emerge, followed by exotic touches of banana, pineapple, and heather honey.
Palate
Lively and intense, the palate opens with indulgent notes of chocolate and hazelnut, evolving toward autumnal notes (chestnut) and balsamic nuances. The influence of the Vin Jaune cask is perceptible, culminating in a freshly herbal and saline finish.
