An intensely fruity wine from a prestigious Spanish estate

The estate

Since its acquisition by the Álvares family in 1982, Vega Sicilia has continued to grow and establish its international reputation. Today, a constant search for excellence, a symbiotic harmony with nature, as well as rigour and dedication make this Spanish estate a prestigious reference. Over the years, other wineries like Pintia have embraced and enhanced the philosophy of Vega Sicilia. Thus, the extreme care provided both in the vineyards and throughout the winemaking process leads to the production of fine Spanish wines from the most unique lands.

The wine

The Pintia winery joined the Vega Sicilia estate in 1997, subsequent to a long process of replanting the vineyard and modernising the infrastructure.

Vega Sicilia's Pintia explores the terroirs of the Toro, a region with a rich and great winemaking tradition near the Douro River. The vineyard is divided into several plots that spread over 96 hectares. Situated at 700 meters of altitude, the vines rest on soils composed of clay, quartz and pebbles.

The continental climate is extreme, with hot and arid summers followed by very cold winters. These weather conditions favour the production of exceptionally healthly, great quality and flavoursome grapes.

The vines are around 32 years old and are sustainably cultivated with the utmost care.

The vinificiation and ageing

Harvesting by hand, between September 13th and October 7th, leads to the selection of the best Tempranillo grapes. The grapes are then left to rest in a cold room for 12 hours in order to preserve the intensity of the fruit. In the cellar, a second sorting is performed to eliminate any poor quality grapes. Following a cold maceration for 5 days, the fermentation is carried out in oak barrels, 75% French and 25% American, for 12 months.

The blend

Vega Sicilia's 2016 Pintia is a 100% Tinto de Toro, a local Tempranillo grape variety.

This wine seduces the palate with its structure and tannic framework. The finish is persistent and reveals refreshing floral notes.
