Vincent Girardin : Bâtard-Montrachet Grand cru 2020

The 2020 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a noticeable reduction on the nose, although I feel this will lift with bottle age. There is a serious wine tucked in underneath. The palate is intense and well-balanced, with a citric line of acidity. There is real presence and weight despite the reduction, leaning more towards yellow fruit mixed with lanolin and a touch of lemongrass towards the finish, the latter lingering long after the wine has departed. Be patient, and you will have a serious Bâtard-Montrachet on your hands. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

It releases a mineral sensation, with notes of stone and pebble on opening. On the palate, it feels compact despite its gentle flesh, supported by the richness of the vintage. In the background, there’s a touch of oak that time will absorb thanks to its fruit that is both ample and dense.
