Description
A smooth and expressive Chilean Central Valley red wine
The estate
Originating from Catalonia, the Viu Manent family settled in Chile and created a wine trading company in 1935, under the impetus of Miguel Viu-García and his two sons Agustín and Miguel.
Miguel Viu Manent purchased the San Carlos de Cunaco estate in 1966, situated in the Colchagua Valley, marking the start of a new chapter in the family's history. The completion of major restructuring work on the estate enabled the Viu Manent family to produce fine Chilean wines year after year. Bursting with flavour, refined and aromatic, the wines from the Viu Manent estate enhance the richness of the Central Valley's exceptional terroirs in over 30 countries.
The vineyard
Viu Manent reigns over a 325-hectare terroir that spreads over 3 vineyards.
The wine
Viu Manent's 2019 Loma Blanca Single Vineyard Carménère is a Central Valley wine made from grapes from the El Olivar vineyard, located in the Peralillo region within the Colchagua Valley area. The vines are 16 years old on average and are planted on a sloping terroir composed of granite soils that provide an excellent drainage.
The vintage
A particularly dry winter preceded a cool, rainy spring in September and October, allowing the first irrigation to be delayed by one or two months. The high temperatures throughout summer had an impact on the vineyards, causing heterogeneity and a delay in ripening. The milder autumn conditions ensured a regular vineyard growth until the harvest.
Vinification and ageing
Only ripe and perfectly healthy grapes are harvested and hand-sorted before being destemmed and crushed. Cold pre-fermentation maceration (8-10°C) for 6 days to optimise the extraction of colour and aromas. Alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks with 4 short pump-overs per day. Post-fermentation maceration for one week. Malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, as well as 16 months of ageing in French oak barrels (70% of which are new barrels) and 30% in untoasted French barrels.

Carménère (100%).
