The power and refinement of a Burgundy Grand Cru
The estate
Founded in Monthélie in 1831 by Bernard Bichot, the Albert Bichot house has established itself as an essential reference in Burgundy. Under the direction of Albéric Bichot, it brings together six estates throughout Burgundy, covering more than 100 hectares, including 13 hectares of Grand Crus and 26 hectares of Premier Crus. A pioneer in the transition to organic farming in the Côte-d'Or, Albert Bichot offers the largest selection of organic wines among the Beaune houses. As a major founding patron of the Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne, the house combines centuries-old family tradition with modern viticultural excellence.
The vineyard
The Grands-Échezeaux is located above the village of Flagey-Échezeaux, on the slope between the Premier Crus of Vosne-Romanée and Clos Vougeot. Its name comes from the Gallo-Roman term "chesaux," which designates a group of dwellings, likely an ancient hamlet. Domaine du Clos Frantin cultivates two plots in this appellation with a surface area of 0.25 hectares. The vines, averaging 35 to 40 years old, take root in brown clay-limestone soils with a high clay content, near a rocky slab also found in the upper part of Clos Vougeot.
Winemaking and Aging
The harvest for the Grands-Échezeaux Grand Cru Domaine du Clos Frantin 2022 is done by hand, followed by sorting upon arrival at the winery. Vatting lasts 18 to 21 days in temperature-controlled wooden tanks. Aging takes place over 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, 40 to 50% of which are new wood.
