Description
The estate
LVMH, the famous luxury group, is embarking on a new adventure in China, more precisely near the legendary city of Shangri-La, in the foothills of the Himalayas. Ao Yun, whose name means "flying above the clouds", came into existence in 2013 and is produced from several vineyards located at altitudes ranging between 2,200 to 2,600 metres. Produced in very limited quantities, this rare wine is paving the way for high-end Chinese wines.
The vineyard
Comprising a surface area of 28 hectares, the Ao Yun vineyard is divided into 314 plots rented to 120 families in 4 villages in the Upper part of the Mekong river in China. Due to the altitude, the exposure of the plots and the highly diverse soil typology, each village offers a rugged expression which contibute to the richness of this wine. In 2016, 900 sub-plots were identified and then grouped into around thirty distinct terroirs.
The tasting
