Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Bruno Colin's Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a hue ranging from pale to intense gold, enhanced by a brilliant shine.
Nose
The initial nose releases generous aromas of ripe yellow fruit and white flowers, mingled with notes of fresh butter and brioche. With aeration, the bouquet becomes more complex, revealing delicate spicy, honeyed and subtly toasted nuances.
Palate
Full-bodied and enveloping, the palate seduces with its dense, generous texture. The cru's natural opulence is perfectly balanced by a fine tension that gives the wine an athletic, harmonious character, extending into a finish of remarkable length and depth.
Food and Wine Pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with noble seafood such as pan-seared scallops or grilled lobster. It will also enhance fish in sauce, such as turbot with beurre blanc, refined poultry dishes, or pressed cooked-curd cheeses like an aged Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
Boasting immense potential, this Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 can be cellared and will be ideal to drink until around 2039.
The Power and Tension of a Great White Burgundy from Bruno Colin
The Estate
Descended from a long line of winegrowers from Chassagne-Montrachet in Burgundy, Bruno Colin learned his craft within the family estate before setting out on his own. Domaine Bruno Colin was thus founded in 2003, with a first vintage released in 2004. Today, Bruno Colin still heads this estate of approximately 8.75 hectares. Renowned for his pursuit of purity and precision, the winemaker crafts wines that faithfully reflect the richness of their terroirs, favouring an environmentally respectful approach to viticulture.
The Vineyard
The Bâtard-Montrachet is a renowned climat located on the border between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. The estate's old Chardonnay vines, planted in 1974 and 1986, thrive on clay-limestone soils with an ideal east to south-east exposure. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of organic farming, involving mechanical soil work, regular ploughing and strict health protection without recourse to systemic treatments.
The Vintage
2024 demanded constant attention in the vineyard, with disease pressure requiring numerous mechanical passes to protect the foliage. Despite these climatic challenges, the harvest yielded grapes with superb balance, combining well-managed ripeness with a solid acidic structure, guaranteeing great freshness.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, with rigorous sorting in the vineyard. After light crushing and gentle pressing, the musts undergo cold settling. Fermentation takes place in 228-litre oak barrels, around 15% of which are new. Ageing continues in these same barrels for twelve months, before the wine is transferred to WineGlobe-type glass tanks for a period of four to six months. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
