Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Ma Vigne de 1955" 2023 by Bruno Colin

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant white hue.

Nose
With beautiful aromatic intensity, the nose unveils great complexity through scents of quince, Seville orange and white flowers, delicately underscored by subtle hints of toasted brioche.

Palate
Combining richness and precision, the palate offers a full-bodied, concentrated texture, carried by a fine minerality. The palate stands out for its buttery profile and saline structure, revealing flavours of greengage plum and candied fruit. The finish, creamy and flavourful, seduces with its beautiful density.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with grilled or poached fish, such as sole meunière or turbot, as well as with seafood like lobster or scallops in lemon butter. It also perfectly accompanies delicate poultry in cream sauce or hard, aged cheeses, such as Comté.

Service and storage

This Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Ma Vigne de 1955" 2023 will reveal its full potential after a few years in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2036.

Other characteristics

The estate

Founded in 2003, the Bruno Colin estate spans 8.75 hectares at the heart of Burgundy, in the prestigious Côte de Beaune. Now led by Bruno Colin, supported by his wife Stéphanie, the estate stands out for its low-intervention approach and its commitment to letting each plot express its own identity. Descended from a long line of winegrowers, the current owner has established his estate among the region's leading names, favouring traditional methods and viticulture that respects the terroir.

The vineyard

Located within the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, the plot dedicated to this cuvée is found in the En Journoblot lieu-dit. This tiny terroir rests on varied soils composed of stony limestone, marl and sand over a Jurassic bedrock, at an altitude ranging between 220 and 325 metres. The vines, planted in 1955, are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable farming. The soils benefit from regular mechanical work, including ploughing, to encourage deep rooting and an optimal expression of the terroir.

The vintage

The year 2023 was marked by particularly hot weather conditions. During the growing cycle, this specific climate caused episodes of heat so intense that the ripening of the vines was temporarily interrupted. This singular phenomenon helped limit sugar accumulation while preserving remarkable freshness within the berries.

Winemaking and aging

For this Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Ma Vigne de 1955" 2023, the grapes are harvested by hand with a rigorous double sorting process. After pneumatic pressing and settling, fermentation occurs naturally through indigenous yeasts in 350-litre French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new wood. Aging continues for twelve months in barrels, followed by a resting period of three to six months in stainless steel tanks before bottling, sealed with wax for optimal protection.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
