Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Bruno Colin's Santenay 1er Cru "Les Gravières" 2024
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a bright, translucent ruby hue.
Nose
Intense and seductive, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of black and red fruits, mingled with hints of spice, violet and liquorice. Subtle mineral, earthy and toasted almond nuances round out the whole.
Palate
The attack is direct and generous. The palate reveals a delicate texture supported by silky, supple tannins. The finish, showing lovely persistence, stands out for its remarkable mineral tension.
Food and Wine Pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with braised meats such as confit beef cheek, richly flavoured roasted poultry, or traditional dishes in sauce. It also goes very well with pressed cheeses such as Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
This Santenay 1er Cru "Les Gravières" 2024 offers fine ageing potential. It can be enjoyed after a few years in the cellar and will continue to gain complexity, drinking well until around 2034.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Santenay Wine
The Estate
Officially founded in 2003 following a family division, the Bruno Colin estate released its first vintage the following year. Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy, France, the estate is today run with passion by Bruno Colin himself. Heir to an age-old expertise, the winemaker cultivates 8.75 hectares of vines spread across prestigious appellations. Renowned for its contemporary approach, the estate is committed to producing pure, precise and taut wines that faithfully reflect the singularity of each terroir through environmentally responsible practices.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from a micro-parcel located in the commune of Santenay, in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. Planted in 1988, the Pinot Noir vines flourish on a steep mid-slope that favours excellent ripeness. The terroir, farmed according to organic principles with mechanical soil tillage, consists of a sandy-clay-limestone surface resting on subsoils rich in angular gravel, providing ideal drainage.
Winemaking and Ageing
Following meticulous hand-harvesting, the grapes destined for the Santenay 1er Cru "Les Gravières" 2024 undergo a rigorous double sorting, first in the vineyard and then on a vibrating table. Destemming is carried out for the large majority of the fruit, followed by a fermentation period of around fifteen days with very limited intervention to favour gentle extraction. The wine is then aged for about twelve months in 350-litre French oak barrels, a quarter of which are new. A further four to six months of refinement in tanks completes the process before bottling.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
