Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Santenay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 by Bruno Colin
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue.
Nose
The nose opens with intense aromas of small red and black fruits, such as raspberry and blackcurrant, subtly enhanced by notes of spice and fresh fruit.
Palate
On the palate, this red wine stands out for its richness and suppleness. Carried by fine, discreet tannins, it offers an airy texture and a structure of great elegance, extending into a persistent and harmonious finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with braised red meats such as beef daube, veal in cream sauce, glazed poultry, or rabbit served with fresh pasta. It will also beautifully complement a platter of matured cheeses such as Comté, Reblochon, or Brie de Meaux.
Serving and Cellaring
This Santenay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 can be enjoyed young, but also has excellent ageing potential, allowing it to develop favourably until around 2034.
The Elegance and Richness of a Santenay Red Wine
The Estate
Founded in 2004 following a family inheritance, Domaine Bruno Colin is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, at the heart of Burgundy, France. Now run by Bruno Colin, winegrower-owner, and his wife Stéphanie, the estate spans 8.75 hectares spread across five prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune. The estate stands out for its philosophy of respecting the terroir, favouring predominantly organic viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking. Bruno Colin is thus committed to producing clear and elegant wines that precisely reflect the diversity and richness of his climats.
The Vineyard
This red wine comes from a small 0.71-hectare plot located within the Santenay appellation, in the "Les Prarons Dessus" lieu-dit, just below the renowned Clos de Tavannes. The vines, over fifty years old, thrive on shallow, stony brown soils of clay-limestone composition. The vineyard is managed with care, relying on environmentally friendly practices such as mechanical soil work, ploughing, and the absence of systematic weeding, allowing the old vines to draw deeply from this exceptional terroir.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are hand-harvested, followed by rigorous sorting both in the vineyard and on a vibrating sorting table. The grapes are fully destemmed before undergoing a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation is then carried out with gentle pump-overs and precise temperature control. The Santenay Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 is aged for around twelve months in 350-litre oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of 15 to 20% new oak. Finally, the wine is blended and rests in stainless steel tanks for four to six months before being bottled at the estate.
