Characteristics and tasting notes for Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" 2010 Champy
Tasting notes
Color
This red wine from France reveals a deep ruby hue, reflecting a fine extraction during maceration.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves remarkably complex, releasing scents of red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry. Subtle spicy and liquorice notes intertwine with a mineral backbone, while aeration reveals delicate toasted touches reminiscent of roasted coffee.
Palate
The palate offers a silky texture supported by an elegant structure and a fine balance. The natural acidity brings lovely liveliness to the whole, resting on fine, perfectly integrated tannins. The tasting experience lingers on a persistent, mineral finish of great freshness.
Food and wine pairing
This great wine pairs wonderfully with feathered game such as roast duck, quail or pheasant. It also enhances grilled or braised red meats, particularly when served with a mushroom sauce or a veal reduction. For bolder pairings, it works beautifully with a characterful cheese such as Époisses, mildly spiced Asian dishes, or a great classic of local gastronomy such as coq au vin.
Service and storage
With a solid structure, this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" 2010 boasts remarkable aging potential. It can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2030, provided it is kept under optimal storage conditions.
The elegance and power of a great Burgundy wine crafted by a historic house
The estate
Founded in 1720 in Beaune by Edme Champy, Maison Champy stands as the oldest négociant house in Burgundy. A pioneer in wine aging, this three-century-old institution even collaborated with Louis Pasteur in the nineteenth century to refine its techniques. Today, the estate belongs to the AdVini group, which continues this excellent tradition while preserving the historic technical team. With an organically certified vineyard spanning 21 hectares, the house continues to shine around the world with authentic cuvées that honor their terroir.
The vineyard
This cru comes from the prestigious climat Les Cazetiers, located within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. Rising to around 325 meters in altitude, this historic plot of just over 87 ares benefits from an ideal southeast to east exposure. The vines flourish on clay-limestone soils overlying a complex geological subsoil composed of crinoidal limestone and marl, giving the grapes a unique minerality and typicity.
The vintage
The year 2010 began with a particularly harsh winter, followed by a cool spring that led to uneven flowering and a significant drop in yields. However, the summer season proved moderately warm and dry. Thanks to the mineral reserves in the soils and the depth of the roots, the vines were able to draw the moisture needed for their development. The growing cycle was thus extended, allowing the small berries to reach exceptional concentration and optimal ripeness at harvest.
Winemaking and aging
The creation of this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Les Cazetiers" 2010 relies on rigorous hand harvesting. In the cellar, fermentation is triggered by indigenous yeasts, accompanied by regular punching down and pumping over to gently extract the wine's substance. The wine then undergoes classic aging in oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood ranging from 20% to 35%, for a period of 12 to 16 months to preserve the pure expression of the terroir.
