Description
The estate
Founded in 1750, Chanson is one of the most famous houses in Burgundy. The estate is located in a bastion erected at the beginning of the 16th century as a watchtower with 8-metre thick walls, nicknamed "La Tour des Filles," and today dedicated to ageing the estate’s wines. Well known to lovers of great Burgundy wines, the Chanson Père & Fils estate offers confidential vintages that brilliantly reveal the expression of the greatest wine-producing villages of the Côte de Beaune.
The vineyard
Domaine Chanson owns 45 hectares of vines located exclusively in Premier Crus and Grand Crus in the most prestigious villages of the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy. With 25 hectares in Beaune, the Domaine Chanson is considered as the specialist of the best Premiers Crus of Beaune.
The wine
This Premier Cru "Les Damodes" 2016 is a Nuits-Saint-Georges wine that stems from its eponymous plot, located halfway up a slope in the northern part of the commune of Nuits-Saint-Georges, at the edge of the Vosne-Romanée growing area. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soils.
The vintage
Following a cold and rainy winter, a frost occurred in April. The beginning of May saw warm and wet weather which contributed to a slightly late flowering. In June, the hot and dry summer set in for the duration and the sunny harvests started at the end of September.
Winemaking and ageing
Fermentation in entire bunches over two weeks. Ageing from 15 to 18 months in casks (one portion in new casks) in the 15th century cellars.
Blend
Pinot Noir (100%)
