Château Citran 2017

The 2017 Citran is deep garnet-purple in color with a faint stewed plum and cassis nose, plus notes of tobacco, earth, and leather and hints of herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, lean, dilute, soft, and innocuous.

Good depth of flavour, rich but austere, with a silky texture that gets better and better with time in the glass and expanding outwards, which is not always the case in 2017. This is not exuberant, tight or austere, and it sings out with Médoc signature: clear notes of fresh mint and cedar oak. It should age well, and has touches of 2001 and 2014 about it. A buy in the vintage.

Linear and racy young red with currant, chocolate and plum character. Medium body, fine tannins and a flavorful finish. Better after 2020.

Deep crimson. Dark fruit with a savoury black-olive note. Savoury, chewy yet fresh and moreish. Honest and complete. (JH)

Very charming bouquet with the typical blueberry and blackcurrant fruit, ripe and appealing. The palate follows suit, providing enough structure with supportive tannins, freshness, and juiciness to step onto the 17/20 podium.

Kunz barrel sample 18: fruity, medium-bodied bouquet, raspberries, strawberries, mocha, fine caramel. Medium-bodied, velvety palate with good fruit, finely sandy tannins, sweet aromatics, well-kerned structure, bitter finish. Can still improve.

A taut, fresh and delicate wine with an airy palate, a graphite finish and supple tannins.

Fruity, floral and spicy. On the palate, the wine is juicy, moreish, light and already very approachable. The tannins are well integrated and the structure provides solid support. A pleasant wine to enjoy in its youth. Fruity finish.
