Robert Parker

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2017 Citran is deep garnet-purple in color with a faint stewed plum and cassis nose, plus notes of tobacco, earth, and leather and hints of herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, lean, dilute, soft, and innocuous.

Decanter

Good depth of flavour, rich but austere, with a silky texture that gets better and better with time in the glass and expanding outwards, which is not always the case in 2017. This is not exuberant, tight or austere, and it sings out with Médoc signature: clear notes of fresh mint and cedar oak. It should age well, and has touches of 2001 and 2014 about it. A buy in the vintage.

James Suckling

Linear and racy young red with currant, chocolate and plum character. Medium body, fine tannins and a flavorful finish. Better after 2020.

Jancis Robinson

Julia Harding MW

Deep crimson. Dark fruit with a savoury black-olive note. Savoury, chewy yet fresh and moreish. Honest and complete. (JH)

Jeff Leve

Bright, crunchy red fruits with a cedar and tobacco edge are exactly what you find here. Medium-bodied and forward in style, drink this in its youth.

Weinwisser

Very charming bouquet with the typical blueberry and blackcurrant fruit, ripe and appealing. The palate follows suit, providing enough structure with supportive tannins, freshness, and juiciness to step onto the 17/20 podium.

René Gabriel

Kunz barrel sample 18: fruity, medium-bodied bouquet, raspberries, strawberries, mocha, fine caramel. Medium-bodied, velvety palate with good fruit, finely sandy tannins, sweet aromatics, well-kerned structure, bitter finish. Can still improve.

André Kunz

Fruity, medium-bodied bouquet with raspberry, strawberry, mocha, delicate caramel. Medium-bodied, velvety palate with good fruit, fine sandy tannins, sweet aromatics, well-kerned structure, slightly bitter finish. Still has room to improve. 16/20 2023 - 2034

Le Figaro Vin

A taut, fresh and delicate wine with an airy palate, a graphite finish and supple tannins.

Yves Beck

Fruity, floral and spicy. On the palate, the wine is juicy, moreish, light and already very approachable. The tannins are well integrated and the structure provides solid support. A pleasant wine to enjoy in its youth. Fruity finish.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Fruity, pleasant wine with medium body and length.

Description

The richness and refinement of an Haut-Médoc red wine

The estate

Château Citran is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. In 1996, the Merlaut family took over the running of this estate and produce elegant wines from the left bank of Bordeaux.

The vineyard

A standard among fine Haut-Médoc wines, Château Citran watches over an almost 90-hectare vineyard. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on a tapestry of gravelly-sandy soils with asteriated limestone and clay-limestone soils.

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon

Merlot
