Description
An emblematic Côtes de Provence rosé wine with wonderful finesse and richness
The estate
Château d'Esclans is located in the heart of Provence, north-east of Saint-Tropez, with the Mediterranean as its backdrop. The first traces of Château d'Esclans date back to the Roman Empire. At the time, it served as an observation post for the Gulf of Fréjus, to guard against sea invasions.
Château d'Esclans is an extraordinary Provence estate. The château is famous for its old Grenache vines, which produce more aromatically concentrated grapes than younger vines.
Built in the 19th century, the present château has had many owners. Owned by Sacha Lichine since 2006, Château d'Esclans has contributed to the development of Côtes de Provence wines. It has now become a global benchmark for Provence rosés, with its Whispering Angel cuvée.
The vineyard
On the Côte d'Azur, just a stone's throw from the ancient Roman city of Fréjus, lies the Esclans valley, home to the 44-hectare vineyard of the château of the same name. With an average age of 35 years, the vines are planted on vineyards made up of clay, limestone or sandy gravel, depending on the plot. This mosaic of terroirs ensures that the great Côtes de Provence wines produced by Château d'Esclans have a wide range of characteristics.
Grape varieties
Château d'Esclans 2021 stems from a vineyard planted with Grenache, Rolle, Syrah, Cinsault and Tibouren.
