The Freshness and Precision of a Mercurey from Château de Chamirey
The Estate
The Château de Chamirey, located in Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise, in Burgundy, took on its modern winegrowing dimension in 1934, when the Marquis de Jouennes decided to bottle the wines at the estate, a pioneering move in the region at the time. Today, the estate, run by Bertrand Devillard and his children Amaury and Aurore, the fifth generation of Burgundy winemakers, extends over approximately 37 hectares, including 15 hectares classified as Premier Cru, and is counted among the benchmark properties of the appellation.
The Vineyard
The Mercurey Village "En Pierrelet" cuvée comes from two plots planted in 1990, located just behind the château, on a small clay-limestone terrace with a predominance of limestone, recognisable by the many small white pebbles on the surface. Facing south-east, these vines benefit from gradual, even ripening. The vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture (lutte raisonnée), with a high planting density and a harvest carried out mainly by hand.
Vinification and Ageing
For the production of the Mercurey Village "En Pierrelet" 2025, the grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted before a slow, gentle pressing in a pneumatic press. After settling for 12 to 24 hours, the juice ferments in barrels with indigenous yeasts, with malolactic fermentation taking place in full. Ageing continues for approximately 10 to 11 months in 400-litre oak barrels, followed by a few months in stainless steel tank before bottling.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay.
