The Elegance of a Granite Terroir in the Brouilly Appellation by Château de La Chaize
The Estate
Founded in 1676, Château de La Chaize is a historic estate and a must-know name in Beaujolais. Listed as a Historic Monument, it spans a vast territory of 450 hectares, of which 150 hectares are devoted to vine cultivation. Since 2017, Christophe Gruy has been the current owner of this architectural and winegrowing gem. Under his leadership, the estate has embarked on a strong environmental commitment, notably converting the vineyard to organic farming, in order to bring out the full potential of Château de La Chaize's unique terroirs.
The Vineyard
The grapes come from an emblematic cadastral lieu-dit within the Brouilly appellation, located in the northern extension of the La Chaize sector. The vines thrive on a steep slope benefiting from a south-east exposure. This terroir rests on a granite soil highly representative of the region, offering optimal ripening conditions for the local grape variety. All of these plots are certified organic.
Winemaking and Ageing
The making of the Lieu-dit "Vers les Pins" Monopole 2023 follows a strictly parcel-by-parcel approach. After harvesting, the bunches are fully destemmed. Maceration then takes place over 16 days in stainless steel vats. Extraction is carried out gently through délestage and pumping-over, with no punching down involved. The wine is then aged for an extended period of 18 months in large oak foudres.
Grape Variety
100% Gamay Noir
