Description
The freshness and balance of a red wine from Pomerol
The estate
An essential reference of the appellation of Pomerol, Château Gazin boasts ancient origins. In 1917, Château Gazin was acquired by Louis Soualle, the great-grandfather of the current owners, the De Bailliencourt dit Courcol family.
The vineyard
Château Gazin 2021 is a Pomerol wine made from a 26-hectare vineyard that rests on Pomerol’s high terrace of clay-gravelly soil. Château Gazin is the largest estate of the famous appellation on the right bank of the Bordeaux region.
The vintage
2021 is a less sunny vintage than the previous ones. It is characterised by heavy rainfall in May and June, and relatively cool temperatures during spring and summer.
Vinification and ageing
Harvesting from September 21st to 30th (Merlot), October 1st for the Cabernet Franc and October 7th for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 14 to 16 months in barrels (50% new and 50% second-fill barrels).
The blend
Merlot (100%).
Château Gazin 2021: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
Nose
The nose mixes fruity (cherry, blackcurrant) and floral (violet, iris) fragrances.
Palate
A suave attack gives way to a balanced and elegant palate. Round and powerful, the palate harmoniously combines freshness, persistence and vivacity.
