Vinum

Delicate, red-fruited, smoky, mineral, sour cherries, cassis, wild strawberries, rose petals; the palate is linear, typically elegant, with fine-grained tannins, gripping acidity, delicate, ripe red-berry fruit; also a Grand Vin with a Burgundian character, finishing with very good length and an almost spicy note. A Haut-Bailly that will be seductive early.

Decanter

Soft floral aromatics, dried flowers, violets and iris with rose petals. Cola, crushed stones and cool blue fruit elements. Some strawberry and cranberry touches too. Great aromatics, delicate though. Perfumed in the best way. Juicy and alive, this has a lovely lifted expression almost straight away but the acidity is balanced by a creamy, cool touch – some tobacco and toast elements putting the wood around the edges, ending on a graphite and salty note. Slim and svelte, lightly built with delicacy and finesse that this estate does so well. Ageing 50% new oak. 3.65 pH. 50% grand vin.

Tobacco, currants, forest leaves, barbecue smoke, black raspberries, and cherries create a complex set of aromatics. The wine is elegant, soft, fresh, medium-bodied, and refined. It possesses a delicacy that allows the wine to focus on purity and charm, showcasing vibrancy in the fruits with just a touch of cocoa on the back of the finish, adding length and body. You can enjoy this quite early in life. With just a few years in the cellar, it will be gorgeous to savor for at least two decades with pleasure. The wine blends 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. 13% ABV. The harvest took place September 18 - October 4. 6% press wine. Drink from 2029-2050. 93-95 Pts

Le Figaro Vin

An ultra-seductive, perfumed, hypnotic bouquet with notes of blue and black fruits tinged with smoky accents and a slate-like minerality. On the palate, that inimitable wild-silk texture, so typical of Haut-Bailly, envelops the mouth in every vintage. It is caressing, persistent, sensual. The finish is fine, airy, delicately perfumed, weaving together salinity and mocha. A very beautiful wine.

Savoury, precise and poised, with lovely texture, softly spoken with high floral aromatics, rose petals, peony, fine tannins, drawn out character, long slow build of tension through the palate, unrolling to show white truffle and mint leaf. Tannic grip, estate signature, more softly spoken than in recent vintages, but Haut-Bailly has proved over and over again that it is capable of delivering over the long term, and that it delivers excellence even in challenging vintages - an upscore potential in bottle. Harvest 18 September to 4 October, 30hl/h yield. Gabriel Vialard technical director.

Deep, intense Bordeaux-red colour with purplish highlights. An intense, refined, fruity nose, subtle and noble. A magnificent attack on the palate, very aromatic, with a dream-like texture. The whole, complex and noble, melts across the palate—delicate, delicious and impossibly spittable. A brilliant world of meticulous detail. Blend: 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. 3% press wine. Alcohol: 13% - pH: 3.65. Yield: 30 hl/ha.

The aromatic purity and delicate tannic structure of a Pessac-Léognan red wine

The property

With a vineyard whose quality of land for vine cultivation was recognized in local archives as early as 1461, Château Haut-Bailly benefits from a prestigious heritage. Having achieved the title of Cru Classé des Graves in 1953, the Château Haut-Bailly saw a new chapter in its history written following its purchase by Robert G. Wilmers in 1998. A passionate lover of Bordeaux and its wines, this great patron and lover of French culture worked alongside his wife to perpetuate the historical heritage of Château Haut-Bailly while bringing a modern and innovative perspective to elevate the cru to the highest level until his death in December 2017. The General Manager of the property, Véronique Sanders, along with the technical director Gabriel Vialard, manage this iconic Cru Classé located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation with talent and passion.

The vineyard

Located at the top of a Graves hill, Château Haut-Bailly overlooks a 30-hectare terroir. Planted on gravel, clay, and sand soils, whose gentle slopes of the hill favor excellent soil drainage, the vines give birth to a great Pessac-Léognan wine.

The vintage

After two hot and dry years, 2024 stands out for its very oceanic climate. The mild and rainy winter causes early bud break, followed by a wet spring conducive to mildew, controlled thanks to the expertise of the teams. Fortunately, the early flowering takes place under excellent conditions at the end of May. The summer, relatively dry, presents strong thermal amplitudes favorable to a good maturation of the grapes, while maintaining a beautiful freshness.

Vinification and aging

Parcel vinification in thermoregulated stainless steel and concrete vats, accompanied by gentle maceration and extraction. Aging for 16 months in French oak barrels from seven different cooperages (including 50% new barrels).

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (58%)
Merlot (40%)
Cabernet franc (2%).
