Description
A delicate and aromatic Fronsac wine
The estate
Château de Carles overlooks la Vallée de l’Isle, situated in the heart of the Fronsac appellation, in the Bordeaux region. This 14th-century building took its present form during the Renaissance period, a time when the greatest minds mingled with Montaigne and La Boétie. Founded 120 years ago under the impetus of Senator Guillaume Chastenet de Castaing, the family’s 4th generation is at the helm of the family-owned estate and continues to write its winemaking history.
Château Haut-Carles has been produced since 1994.
The vineyard
Château Haut-Carles is a Fronsac wine made from a rigorous selection of plots and from a 15-hectare vineyard. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on clay and clay-limestone soils, resting over molasse deposits.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand in crates and are sorted based on their density. Gravity-fed vinification for each plot. Aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (50% new oak) in a thermo-regulated ageing cellar.
The blend
Merlot (96%)
Cabernet Franc (4%).
