Vinum

Appears quite oak-influenced, yet well balanced, with density and freshness and good length; stylish.

Decanter

Milk chocolate, blackcurrants, clove, black pepper, ash, truffle and perfume on the nose—so much going on and it hints at what’s to come on the palate, which is serious, savoury and a little sombre at this point. This is quite a dark, tightly knit style, tannic yet svelte and charming at the same time. I like the quality of the tannins and there’s some bright strawberry juice that gives it a delicate, fresh aspect despite the power. Lots to like and it will be even better with time.

James Suckling

Attractive aromas of ripe blueberries, salted plums, chocolate, praline and dried lavender. It’s medium- to full-bodied with creamy, silky tannins. Polished and juicy with fresh citrus notes on the finish. Drink after 2023.

Antonio Galloni

The 2019 La Croix de Gay is a bit rustic and rough around the edges, but it has good depth and plenty of character. Black fruit, leather, chocolate, licorice and dried herbs give the 2019 savory intensity to match its succulent dark fruit.

Ready to drink, medium-bodied, round, soft, plummy wine with hints of herbs, wet earth, plums, cocoa, and cherries. No need to wait, this mid-weight Pomerol is ready to go. Drink from 2025-2035.

Andreas Larsson

A wine combining power and finesse, with layers of ripe red fruit, fine spices, a velvety, rounded palate, yet with good density and persistence, fine grain and polish, and a savory, digest finish.

The Merlot-dominated (there's 3% Cabernet Franc) 2019 Château La Croix De Gay has an incredibly floral, almost exotic bouquet that includes plenty of spiced red and black cherry fruits, notes of sappy herbs, iron, and chocolate, medium-bodied richness, soft tannins, and a juicy, elegant profile geared for drinking over the coming decade.

Kunz barrel sample 2020: (97% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 14.8% vol. alcohol, production 22,000 bottles) Medium-intense, subtly bitter bouquet, blackberries, red cherries, licorice, cold smoke. Plush, fruity palate with sweet fruit, creamy, broad structure, sweet finish.

André Kunz

Medium-bodied, delicately peppery bouquet with blackberries, cherries, nougat. Velvety, fruity palate with sweet fruit, fine tannins, a subtly grainy structure, good aromatics, and a gently bitter finish. 17/20 2024 - 2036

The silkiness of the tannins is striking, and this is powerful, well-rounded, with damson and black cherry fruits set against powerful ground coffee and cocoa bean. Signature Pomerol. Sibling estate to La Fleur de Gay, both owned by the Raynaud-Lebreton family. 39hl/ha yield. Axel Marchal consultant for the first time as of the 2019 vintage.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2019 La Croix de Gay is composed of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, it slowly emerges with notes of crushed rocks and tar leading to a core of baked plum and black cherry compote. The medium- to full-bodied palate is generously fruited, with firm, sturdy tannins and an earthy finish.

[ En Primeur 2019 score: 93-94 ] Plenty of vitality and superb length, with finely defined aromatics, a refined silky texture and a beautifully persistent finish.

Yves Beck

Fresh, fruity bouquet with notes of blueberry followed by a hint of cedar. Creamy, gourmand character on the palate. The wine is round, elegant and endowed with well-wrapped tannins. They support the whole wine while remaining silky. A seductive and delicious wine!

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Logo on the cork: AL Dark, intense, and vibrant color. Very aromatic nose, fine, fruity, ripe in style. Precise on the attack, juicy mid-palate, particularly aromatic; the wine melts on the palate with refined texture and aromas. It leaves delicate flavors on the finish. Long, very good, and hard to spit out.
