The estate
Built in the 18th century, Château La Tour Blanche is today home to the La Tour Blanche School of Viticulture and Oenology. A Sauternes First Classified Growth of 1855, the Château La Tour Blanche has belonged to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region since 2010 and has recently dedicated itself to education, while also continuing to contribute to the history of the great wines of Sauternes.
The vineyard
The 40 hectares of the estate are situated upon a terroir where two rivers create a morning fog, allowing for the development of botrytis cinerea (noble rot), without which there would be no Bordeaux sweet wines. La Tour Blanche produces elegant wines in the cool tranquility of its cellars, representing the unique characteristics of the appellation.
Vinification and ageing
The harvests, though disrupted by the rain, yielded a low quantity of very high-quality grapes but with low yields. The harvest was manual and involved 3 sortings. The ageing was carried out in new oak barrels.
The blend
The Château La Tour Blanche 2020 is made from a blend of Sémillon (89%), Sauvignon Blanc (5.5%) and Muscadelle (5.5%).
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a beautiful straw yellow colour.
Nose
The intense nose blends aromas of lime blossom and orange blossom.
Palate
Generous and greedy, the palate seduces with its aromas of tarte tatin, along with its fruity and fresh citrus notes. The finish reveals powdery vanilla flavours.
Service
For optimal tasting, serve at 10-11 °C. The Château La Tour Blanche 2020 can be kept in the cellar until 2042, developing beautifully in the bottle.
