Vinum

Deep color, smoky nose, dark berries, herbs; compact palate, showing density and good structure, aromatic on the dark-fruit side, medium-length finish. Harmonious.

Decanter

Quiet but well formed, nicely delicate with creamy strawberry and cherry fruit alongside firm, mineral-edged tannins. This has a sleek frame and cool centre that drives the flavours forward. Really well presented, not lacking in fruit at all with a good persistence. Silky and classy.

Flowers, red cherries, and a touch of wild herbs form the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, bright, crisp, and chewy, with a vibrant red-berry finish. The wine blends 57% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, and 4% Cabernet Franc. 12.5% ABV. Drink from 2027–2040. 89–91 points

Description

A Margaux wine combining balance and finesse

The estate

Founded in the 13th century, the Château La Tour de Mons is rooted in the history of the Médoc, with origins dating back to the seigneury of Soussans in 1098. This historic wine estate, now owned by the Perrodo family, is distinguished by its unique walled enclosure, a rarity in the Bordeaux Médoc. Since 2020, significant investments have modernized the facilities while preserving ecological management.

The vineyard

Located to the north of Margaux, the vineyard of Château La Tour de Mons extends over 48 hectares in one contiguous block, of which 41.5 are in production, a remarkable feature in the region. The vines thrive on an exceptional terroir of Garonnese gravel and clay-limestone soils, characteristic of the great crus of the Médoc. The plantings are composed of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Winemaking and aging

Hand-harvested grapes. Vinification in stainless steel vats. Aged for 12 months in barrels (90% once-used, 10% new).
