Description
The density and complexity of a fine red wine from Pomerol
The estate
Founded in 1920 by their grandparents, it was in 1978 that the famous oenologist Michel Rolland and his brother took over from their father at the helm of Château Bon Pasteur, grand cru of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
The 6.6 hectares of vines in Pomerol are spread out over 23 plots with a typical terroir, the model vineyard producing high-performance wines. The vineyard is managed using sustainable agriculture, and the estate has earned the High Environmental Value certification.
The vintage
Following a mild autumn and a cool start to the winter, temperatures rose and led to early budding. The cool and wet spring was overtaken by a hot and dry summer, leading to a homogeneous and rapid veraison. The day / night temperature differences allowed for a fantastic aromatic quality in the fruit, which reached perfect ripeness in time for the harvest.
The winemaking
Manual harvest, double sorting after destemming. Intra-plot selection. Full vinification. Alcoholic fermentation in new barrels.
The ageing
15 to 18 months, 50% in barrels.
The blend
Merlot (80%), cabernet franc (20%)
The tasting
Tasted as a wine future, the Château Le Bon Pasteur 2019 displays a dense, purple colour with purple reflections. On the nose, a complex bouquet is gradually revealed, offering notes of black berries and hints of liquorice, while retaining a great freshness. On the palate, the creamy and delicious character of this wine is revealed upon a silky structure. The long, persistent finish indicates a precise tannic structure.
