Description
A Saint-Julien with delicate aromas of acacia and sweet violets
The estate
An essential reference on Bordeaux's Left Bank, Château Léoville Barton was acquired by the Barton family in 1826. Classified as a 2nd Grand Cru since 1855, the estate is still run by the descendants of Hugh Barton and stands out for its commitment to elegance and stylistic consistency.
The vineyard
The vineyard extends over 50 hectares in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation. The vines are planted on an exceptional terroir made up of deep gravel resting on a clay subsoil, typical of the great crus of the Médoc. This geological composition provides ideal natural drainage while allowing the roots to draw the necessary nutrients from deep down. The average age of the vines is 38 years, lending concentration and complexity to this benchmark among Bordeaux wines.
Winemaking and aging
The wine is aged on average for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels (60% of which are new).
Grape varieties
Château Léoville Barton 2012 is made from a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc.
