Description
The vivacity and aromatic richness of a great Pessac-Léognan wine
The estate
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, a major Pessac-Léognan estate, is located on Bordeaux Left Bank. Founded in the 16th century, this vineyard is now delivering an expression of its terroir that is the work of a visionary owner and craftsmen with the air of goldsmiths. Acquired in 2010 by the Pichet property group, Château Les Carmes-Haut-Brion is now one of the most distinguished growths in the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
The vineyard
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a Pessac-Léognan wine made from 30.75 hectares of vines, 7.60 hectares of which are dedicated to the Grand Vin. The vines, which are almost 40 years old, are planted on Mindel gravel on a clay-limestone base.
The vintage
The start of 2022 was marked by low rainfall, encouraging the vines to develop their root systems deep in the ground. Budburst in mid-March preceded a long period of very hot weather that lasted from May until rainy spells in mid-August. Despite these extreme conditions, the grapesweare of exceptional quality, revealing a rare combination of richness, power and voluptuousness.
Winemaking and ageing
Harvested by hand, the grapes underwent meticulous sorting in the vineyard and the cellar. Whole bunch vinification (70%). Aged in new barrels (70%), new 18hl tuns (20%) and amphoras (10%).
Blend
Cabernet Franc (40%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (34%)
Merlot (26%).
