Vinum

Dark berries, tobacco, lavender, pronounced toasty notes, smoke, with a clearly perceptible mineral edge underneath; dense, focused and concentrated on the palate yet not heavy, crunchy fruit supported by excellent tannins; long finish of blackberry. A wine with breeding, drive and power.

Decanter

Round and ripe aromas of blackcurrants and bramble fruit on the nose. Supple and juicy but smooth and velvety too – almost cream with a soft powdery aspect to the tannins and a vein of blueberry acidity going from start too finish which keeps this quite linear. A nice combination of structure and accessibility. Well balanced, mouthwatering with a crisp, juicy and extremely fresh aspect almost with an iodine, oyster shell salinity which lingers. Lovely. Delicate and long. Very good. A yield of 38hl/ha. 0.5% Cabernet Franc completes the blend.

Flowers, tobacco leaves, cigar box, dark cherries, blackberries and a touch of espresso create the perfume. On the palate, the wine is elegant, fresh, refined, and long. Everything is in balance, with a lingering finish that tastes as good as it feels. If you can wait, give it a few years of bottle age, and it should evolve for 2 decades with ease. The wine is a blend of 57.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, and .5% Cabernet Franc. 13% ABV. Drink from 2029-2052. 94-96 Pts

Enjoyable, sappy, plenty of lift and dark fruit, incense and sandalwood, you can see the structure and shape of the tannins and it is very much a wine where the acidity is controlled, giving a really juicy mouthfeel, great energy, definition and precision. Excellent job. 38 hl/ha yield.

Yves Beck

Martic-Lagravière’s bouquet stands out for its poise and overall harmony, perfectly orchestrated through the many details that compose it. The ageing integrates with aromas of red berries and violets, followed by a touch of liquorice and finally a hint of mint that underscores the freshness. The silky attack leads into tannins that are just as elegant and velvety. They provide an excellent backbone together with the freshness of the structure. A linear, savoury, fresh and persistent wine—and a real success to boot!

Deep, dark red colour, intense, profound and beautiful. An intense, fruity nose, refined and subtle, evocative of the Pessac terroir. Precise on the attack, bursting with fruit through the mid-palate, with a classy texture and plenty of flavour, the wine melts on the palate, with liquorice and floral notes and a hint of smoked pine wood. Long, smooth and highly aromatic. Blend: 57.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13% - pH: 3.6. Ageing: 70% new oak. 55% grand vin.

The elegance and freshness of a great red wine from Pessac-Léognan

The estate

Acquired and renamed in 1803 by Pierre de Malartic, Château Malartic-Lagravière is an emblematic figure of the Bordeaux region. This prestigious estate enjoys international renown thanks to its status as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, a rare distinction that it holds for both its red and white wines. Today, the property is passionately run by the Bonnie family. These dedicated owners enhance this exceptional terroir to produce cuvées renowned for their elegance and complexity.

The vineyard

Located at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the estate spans 73 hectares, 66 of which are dedicated to red grape varieties. The vines, with an average age of 28 years and planted at a high density of 10,000 vines per hectare, thrive on dry, clayey Günzian gravel mounds, resting on a shelly limestone subsoil. Strongly committed to preserving biodiversity, the team practises agro-ecology with cover crops, eco-grazing and horse-drawn ploughing. These efforts are rewarded by High Environmental Value level 3 and ISO 14001 certifications.

The vintage

A rainy winter built up significant water reserves in the soils, allowing the vines to comfortably weather a hot, dry summer punctuated by two heatwaves. The result is perfectly ripe grapes that still retain lovely acidity. The white harvest, which began on 26 August, yielded flavourful, dense and aromatic wines, with remarkable liveliness and a saline finish. The red harvest, which started on 9 September with generous, fruity Merlots, continued until 3 October, giving the Cabernets time to reach their full potential. Ultimately, 2025 combines generosity, freshness and balance, promising great white as well as red wines.

Vinification and ageing

The manual harvest took place from 9 September to 3 October depending on the plots. After rigorous sorting in the vineyard, on a double sorting table and by optical system, the grapes are vinified in small truncated wooden vats as well as temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Advised by oenologist Eric Boissenot, Château Malartic-Lagravière 2025 benefits from traditional ageing on fine lees in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

Grape varieties

57.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc.
