A fresh and concentrated red wine from Margaux

The estate

In the heart of the Margaux appellation lies Château Marquis de Terme. The origins of the vineyard date back to the 15th century, but the estate took on its current name in the 18th century when the Marquis de Terme took over. Since 1935, the Sénéclauze family has owned this illustrious Bordeaux Left Bank property.

The vineyard

Château Marquis de Terme’s 38-hectare vineyard is planted on deep gravel soils, a typical feature of the Margaux appellation, made up of thick quartz, quartzite and, in some areas, clay. The vines are 35 years old on average and are managed in a plot-by-plot manner with the utmost respect for the environment.

The vintage

The exceptionally mild winter and autumn advanced an early and even vineyard development. The rainfall in June reduced the water stress. The pleasant weather conditions in July and August, with not too much heat due to the wind and cool nights, were ideal for refining the ripeness levels. The rainfall in the first ten days of September gave way to a sunny end to the month.

Winemaking and ageing

Plot selection. Harvests done by hand. Meticulous sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar in order to keep only the best quality grapes. Vinification in temperature-controlled concrete vats. The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new.

Cabernet Sauvignon (65%)
Merlot (30%)
Petit Verdot (5%).
