The estate

At the heart of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux is Château Marquis de Terme. The origins of the property date back to the 15th century, but the estate took on its current name in the 18th century, when it was acquired by the Marquis de Terme. Since 1935, the Seneclauze family has owned this Margaux Grand Cru.

The vineyard

The 40-hectare vineyard of the Château Marquis de Terme is planted in deep gravel with thick quartz and quartzites, typical of the Margaux appellation. Certain plots have more clay. The vineyard is managed on a parcel-by-parcel basis and has earned the High Environmental Value 3 certification.

The vintage

A mild winter favouring early bud burst preceded a rainy spring, followed by a particularly hot and dry summer. The optimal conditions during the month of September refined the beauty and maturity of the grapes, resulting in an elegant and balanced wine.

The winemaking

Harvested manually with crates, the grapes were sorted first in the vineyard and then again at the winery. A plot-by-plot vinification was carried out in concrete, wood and thermoregulated stainless steel vats, filled by means of gravity without the use of pumps. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out using natural yeasts. The vinification did not involve the addition of sulphites, taking place with punch-downs. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new barrels.

The blend

The Château Marquis de Terme 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (35%), Petit Verdot (5%).

The tasting

Colour

Intense and deep, the wine displays purple reflections and ink-coloured touches.

Nose

The expressive first nose reveals notes of violet and liquorice. A variety of beautiful aromatic power, Cabernet Sauvignon lends fruity fragrances (blackcurrant, red and black fruits), which intermingle with the subtle peppery notes characteristic of Petit Verdot. After stirring the wine, elegant woody notes come through, reinforcing the aromatic complexity with notes of roasting, mocha and cedar.

Palate

The full and velvety palate seduces with its notes of dense, mouth-coating black fruit, its tannic structure and its silky feel.
