Franciacorta Wines

Franciacorta Wines image

Franciacorta is located in northern Italy, more precisely in Lombardy, 100 kilometers away from Milan. The history of sparkling Franciacorta begins in 1570, when a Brescia doctor, Girolamo Conforti, testified that a wine produced in the Franciacorta region had a “lot of virtues” and “bite.” In other words, they were sparkling. Today, 100 producers are producing Franciacorta. In 1995, Franciacorta was the first Italian Brut dry wine to obtain the status of DOCG- Denominazione d’origine Controllata Garantita. Franciacorta is produced from a single variety or several varieties : Chardonnay, Pinot noir and Pinot blanc. This wine is finished only 25 months after harvest - with the winemaking process including a secondary fermentation in the bottle, a slow maturation and ageing on the lees for no fewer than 18 months.
