The estate
Founded in 1968 by Annamaria Clementi Zanella in Erbusco, Lombardy, Ca' del Bosco established itself as a pioneer of Franciacorta under the leadership of her son Maurizio Zanella, current president. The estate revolutionizes Italian viticulture with its high-density vineyards and extended aging methods. Recognized worldwide for its excellence, Ca' del Bosco embodies the perfect union of technical innovation and Franciacorta tradition. Since 2016, the Santa Margherita group has held a majority stake, while the Zanella family retains ownership of the land.
The vineyard
This Franciacorta Satèn comes from thirty certified organic parcels distributed across the municipalities of Erbusco, Adro, Cazzago San Martino, Corte Franca, and Passirano. The chardonnay vines, with an average age of 24 years, stand alongside pinot blanc vines averaging 31 years. These exceptional terroirs benefit from optimal exposure and soils particularly suited to the expression of Franciacorta’s white grape varieties.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage is characterized by a cool winter followed by an early bud break between March 20 and 25. Flowering occurred one week ahead of schedule. Spring saw significant rainfall, while a moderate summer ended with high temperatures in late July. These climatic conditions fostered the development of healthy grapes and allowed the production of white wines of great elegance.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates before being sorted and cooled. They undergo cluster washing with a water-jet system. The musts ferment in small oak barrels for five months before being racked by gravity. The blend is created seven months after the harvest from thirty base wines. The tirage is carried out in May 2021, followed by an average of 48 months’ aging on the lees. Disgorgement is performed in the absence of oxygen thanks to a proprietary system.
Blend
Satèn 2020 by Ca' del Bosco is a blend of chardonnay (85%) and pinot blanc (15%).
