Château Montrose unveils a three-bottle box set celebrating 20 years of passion

The Estate

Acquired in 2006 by brothers Martin and Olivier Bouygues, Château Montrose stands as one of the emblematic figures of the Saint-Estèphe appellation. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, this prestigious estate presides over an exceptional terroir at the heart of the Médoc. Renowned both for the consistency of its quality and the elegance of its style, Château Montrose embodies excellence and enjoys worldwide acclaim.

The Vineyard

Château Montrose benefits from a 95-hectare vineyard in a single block, a rare feature in the region, resting on an exceptional terroir considered one of the finest in Bordeaux. This "elite core", ideally located near the Gironde estuary, sits on gravel terraces mixed with surface sand, overlooking a clay subsoil. This unique setting gives these Saint-Estèphe wines their distinctive character and remarkable consistency.

The Box Set

Celebrating 20 years of the Bouygues family at the helm of the estate, the "Château Montrose Mixed Case 1996-2006-2016" comprises three vintages ending in "6", marking the connection between the generations who have shaped the estate's history.

Château Montrose 1996: dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (73%), complemented by Merlot (24%) and Cabernet Franc (3%), this vintage displays a deep, dense purple colour. Its generous nose combines leather, black fruit and brown tobacco. The palate combines freshness with a silky texture, revealing notes of blackberry, blackcurrant, dark chocolate and cocoa. Its fine, smooth tannins make for a classic, indulgent and complex wine with beautiful balance.

Château Montrose 2006: made up of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot, it is vinified plot by plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Its deep, dense colour heralds a nose of red fruit and morello cherries. Full-bodied, long and powerful, the palate unfolds notes of morello cherry, raspberry, strawberry and liquorice, underpinned by crisp, taut tannins. Highly structured, this great wine boasts remarkable ageing potential.

Château Montrose 2016: a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Merlot (25%) and Cabernet Franc (7%), with micro-plot vinification and gentle, tailored extractions. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, it shows a very dark, deep colour. Its vibrant, complex nose blends ripe fruit, toasted oak and spices, while the full, fleshy palate reveals silky, precise tannins. Powerful, refined and elegant, it finishes with an expansive finale of exceptional length.
