A Premier Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac marked by power and elegance

The property

Château Mouton Rothschild, located in Pauillac in the Bordeaux Médoc, is an emblematic estate acquired by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853. Initially classified as a second grand cru in 1855, it is the only one to have been promoted to premier grand cru in 1973, under the impetus of Philippe de Rothschild. The 91-hectare vineyard is mainly planted with cabernet sauvignon. Since 1945, each vintage has featured a unique artistic label.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Mouton Rothschild extends over 82 hectares in production in Pauillac, with vines averaging 50 years old. The terroir is composed of deep gravels typical of the appellation, offering perfect drainage and regulated water supply to the vines. This combination of soils and privileged exposure near the Gironde estuary gives the wines their unique character and remarkable aging potential.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a mild winter with abundant rainfall, followed by an early bud break at the end of March. After a relatively dry April, May brought substantial rains with cool temperatures and moderate sunshine, increasing the pressure of mildew. Flowering and fruit set were marked by some phenomena of shatter and millerandage on the early merlots and cabernets. The mild summer gradually established a water deficit favorable to the concentration of the berries. The harvest began on September 23 and ended in early October.

Vinification and aging

To produce Château Mouton Rothschild 2024, the grapes were rigorously selected and then vinified plot by plot. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barrels, allowing slow oxygenation and harmonious integration of the tannins. This traditional aging process gives the wine its remarkable structure and exceptional aging potential.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (93%) and merlot (7%).
