Description
A fine Pauillac wine exhibiting a seductive aromatic expression
The estate
In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Château Brane-Mouton at an auction. Located in the heart of the Médoc, in Pauillac, he renamed the estate Château Mouton Rothschild. In 1924, Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the running of the estate. A true pioneer, he decided to start bottling directly on the estate and designed the label of the wine. 1973 marked the year when Château Mouton Rothschild became a Premier Cru Classé. Iconic in the Pauillac appellation, Château Mouton Rothschild has made fine Bordeaux wines shine throughout the world.
The vineyard
Situated to the north-west of Bordeaux, in the Médoc, Château Mouton Rothschild’s vineyard spreads across 90 hectares. The vines are planted on gravelly soils that retain the heat and release it during the night, thus favouring the ripening of the grapes. These poor, draining soils rest on a clay-gravel subsoil, giving these Pauillac wines a unique powerful, elegant and tannic structure.
The vintage
The winter season was colder than usual and was preceded by a particularly dry period from April to September. Although the yields were moderate, the very high quality grapes led to an elegant wine with powerful, rich tannins. Its identity resonates with other fine vintages in the history of the estate, such as the 1976, 1982 and 1995 vintages.
The blend

The tasting
Colour
This wine is an intense dark colour.
Nose
The nose is very elegant, combining woody, toasty and vanilla fragrances with delicate notes of wild berries. When aired, minty and spicy aromas appear and express a superb freshness.
Palate
Full and powerful, the mouth seduces with its delicious tannins as well as its fruity and concentrated notes of blackcurrant and blackberry. The finish is persistent and reveals the refined expression of rich, ripe Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which characterises the appellation’s finest vintages.
