Description
The complexity and richness of a Pauillac Premier Cru Classé
The estate
Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Château Brane-Mouton at auction in 1853. Located in the heart of the Médoc, in Pauillac, he renamed the property Château Mouton Rothschild. In 1924, Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the reins of the estate. A visionary, he decided to start bottling the wine directly on the estate, while at the same time designing the label. 1973 was the year Château Mouton Rothschild became a Premier Cru Classé. An emblem of the Pauillac appellation, Château Mouton Rothschild has helped the great wines of Bordeaux to shine throughout the world.
The vineyard
Château Mouton Rothschild 2022 is a Pauillac wine from a vineyard located to the north-west of Bordeaux, in the Médoc. The vines are planted on gravelly soils that trap heat and release it during the night, helping the grapes to ripen. These poor, draining soils rest on a clay-gravel subsoil, giving Château Mouton Rothschild wines their unique power, elegance and tannic structure.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was characterised by a hot, dry climate, albeit punctuated by rainy spells that recharged the soils. Despite the extreme heat waves, the vines adapted thanks to their deep roots. Flowering starts ten days early, and the grapes ripen in perfect conditions. Harvesting begins early in September, and the grapes are harvested with exceptional concentration and balance.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (92%)
Merlot (8%)
