Description
The typicity and aromatic qualities of a Pessac-Léognan red wine
The estate
Built in the heart of the 18th century by the architect La Clotte, Château Picque Caillou has cheerfully passed through the ages. Since 1997, it has been owned by the Calvet family and has the particularity of being part of the small circle of châteaux - six in number to be precise - that are now located within the Bordeaux ring road. Like Château Haut-Brion and Château Pape-Clément, the estate resists the advance of the city on its peaceful land to offer Bordeaux wines that combine elegance and purity.
The vineyard
Located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Picque Caillou covers 22 hectares of red and white grape varieties deeply rooted in a Günzian gravel soil and cradled by the mild oceanic climate typical of the region. Château Picque Caillou 2022 is made from the 18 hectares of red grape varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot) belonging to the estate.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvest, which began on 6 September with the Merlot and ended on 26 September with the Petit Verdot, the grapes went to the cellar to begin the vinification process under the watchful eye of oenologist Valérie Lavigne. During the last 15 days of December 2022, the wines complete their fermentation and are bottled. The wine was then aged for a year in barrels, 40% of which were new.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (45%) and Petit Verdot (5%).
