Description

A structured and aromatic red wine from Haut-Médoc revealed by Sociando-Mallet

The estate

Overlooking the Gironde estuary for almost 3 centuries, Château Sociando-Mallet is one of the most respected properties in Haut-Médoc. Owned by Sieur Sociando in the 17th century, the Mallet family added their name after their acquisition of the estate in the 19th century. Since 1969, the Gautreau family has endowed this iconic property on the left bank of Bordeaux with their passion and energy.

The vineyard

At the top of the hill of Baleyron, in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, the 77 hectares of vineyard are planted in a soil of gravel and clay upon a clay-limestone subsoil. The vines, aged by 35 years on average, are cultivated in a traditional way.

Winemaking and ageing

Manual harvests followed by a sorting on tables. Traditional vinification in thermoregulated cement and stainless steel tanks accompanied by racking and offloading. Vatting for 25 days. Malolactic fermentation in vats. Ageing lasts for 12 months in 90% new barrels.

Blend

The 2020 Sociando-Mallet is made of a blend of Merlot (53%), Cabernet Sauvignon (46%), Cabernet Franc (1%).
