A Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé with an authentic and elegant signature
The estate
Founded in the 15th century, Château Trotte Vieille is a flagship of Saint-Émilion. The unique name Trottevieille traces back to an ancient tale, passed down through generations. It is said that an elderly lady, curious about newcomers from the town, would hurry along with small steps as soon as a stagecoach stopped near the estate. It was this picturesque scene that gave birth to the château’s name. Premier Grand Cru Classé, the château is distinguished not only by the finesse of its wines but also by the rarity of its plant heritage: the estate indeed harbors a precious parcel of pre-phylloxera vines, miraculously spared from the 19th-century phylloxera crisis. Since the 1990s, the Castéja family, led by Philippe Castéja, has upheld a tradition of excellence.
The vineyard
The vineyard benefits from full southern exposure, promoting optimal grape ripeness. Located on the heights of Saint-Émilion, it features an exceptional limestone terroir that imparts distinctive minerality and aging potential to the wines.
Vinification and aging
Each parcel is vinified separately to preserve the unique characteristics of each terroir. The process includes a cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by alcoholic fermentation at low temperature and malolactic fermentation in tanks or barrels. Aging is carried out in 100% new French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its complexity while maintaining its freshness.
Blend
Cabernet Franc (56%), complemented by Merlot (41%) and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon (3%).
