Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Clos Canarelli "Amphora" 2023
Tasting
Color
Unfiltered and unfined, this red wine reveals a color that may present a slight natural turbidity.
Nose
Rich and beautifully intense, the bouquet reveals aromas of ripe red fruits and warm spices, enhanced by touches of minerality, wild herbs and earthy notes.
Palate
The palate offers remarkable volume and great depth, supported by silky tannins and a surprising freshness. The long, complex finish lingers on red fruit flavors intertwined with mineral and herbaceous accents.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with traditional Corsican charcuterie (coppa, lonzu, figatellu), grilled meats such as duck or game, as well as roasted poultry with Mediterranean herbs. It will also complement delicious sun-drenched vegetable dishes.
Service and storage
This Clos Canarelli "Amphora" 2023 deserves to age for a few years in the cellar in order to develop its full complexity and reach its peak.
The authentic expression of a great red wine from Corse Figari
The estate
Founded in 1968, Clos Canarelli is an essential reference in Corsican winegrowing. Located at the southernmost tip of the island, this family estate took a decisive turn in 1993 under the leadership of its current owner, Yves Canarelli. This visionary winegrower worked to revive the island's endemic grape varieties across his 38-hectare vineyard. Cultivated according to biodynamic principles, the estate now stands out for its high-caliber cuvées, praised by international critics for their pure and authentic expression of Mediterranean terroir.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Corse Figari appellation, one of the oldest wine regions in France. The vines flourish on a terroir composed of decomposed granite and red alluvial deposits, particularly rich in minerals. Despite very hot summers, the vineyard benefits from the moderating influence of the sea breezes from the Gulf of Figari and the Omu di Cagna massif. The wide temperature swings between day and night help preserve fine acidity and remarkable aromatic freshness.
The vintage
2023 was marked by particularly hot growing conditions. However, thanks to coastal winds and the temperature variations between day and night, the vegetative cycle was able to proceed optimally, preserving a surprising freshness within the grapes.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by rigorous sorting and total destemming. The fermentation of the Clos Canarelli "Amphora" 2023 takes place exclusively in Italian clay amphorae lined with beeswax, over a period of four to seven weeks. The wine is then transferred to stainless steel tanks and neutral oak barrels for seven to nine months of aging. It is bottled without fining or filtration.
