The nose reveals a complex bouquet with aromas of black fruit such as blackberries and plums, accompanied by floral notes and mild spices.

Palate
On the palate, this wine shows a powerful, contemplative structure and reveals the full richness of its slate terroir with a persistent, mineral finish.

Food and wine pairings

This characterful red wine pairs perfectly with grilled beef, game birds and mature cheese. It also goes very well with braised dishes with wild mushrooms.

Service and storage

Las Lamas 2023 is ideal after decanting for at least one hour before serving. The recommended serving temperature is between 16 and 18°C. This wine has a high aging potential and can be kept until around 2043.

A powerful, contemplative wine from Castile and León by Descendientes de Jose Palacios

The estate

Descendientes de J. Palacios is the story of a family company, founded by Álvaro Palacios, an outstanding figure of the Spanish wine revolution of the last twenty years, and his nephew Ricardo Pérez. Named after Álvaro's father and Ricardo's grandfather, who passed away in 2000, the Bodega Descendientes de Jose Palacios was established near the village of Villafranca del Bierzo in the Autonomous Community of Castile and León in Spain.

The vineyard

The Las Lamas vineyard extends over 1.6 hectares of selected plots in the Corullón zone, in the heart of the Bierzo appellation. Facing south on very steep slopes, the vines grow between 670 and 730 meters above sea level on Paleozoic, laminar slate soils with predominant clay components. These oxidized, chlorite-rich slates show the orange, yellow and red tones typical of this region on a thickness of only 45 centimeters.

Winemaking and aging

Vinification takes place in oak vats with regular punching down of the cap using indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation starts spontaneously in the same oak vat, then the wine ages in foudres and barrels.

Blend

The cuvée consists of 97% Mencía, complemented by 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% of a white grape variety (Jerez).
