Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Aux Echanges" 2023 Domaine A.F. Gros
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant ruby hue, enhanced by luminous highlights characteristic of its appellation.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet showcases red fruit aromas accompanied by delicate floral touches, all carried by a lovely freshness.
Palate
The texture is both fleshy and delicate, supported by a solid structure with particularly silky tannins. The well-integrated acidity balances the concentration of fruit, leading to a long, complex finish marked by persistent minerality.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with feathered game such as partridge served in a salad or pie, as well as with refined poultry. It also goes very well with roast lamb, veal with mushrooms, or soft cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin, Reblochon, or Brie de Meaux.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Aux Echanges" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. With excellent potential, it can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2038.
The elegance and minerality of a Premier Cru from Chambolle-Musigny
The estate
Founded in 1988 following the union of the vineyards of Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is a key figure in Burgundy. Based in Pommard, the estate oversees 10 hectares of vineyards spread across the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Today, the domaine is led by the new generation: Caroline Parent manages development and sales, while Mathias Parent oversees winemaking. The domaine stands out for its commitment to preserving family heritage while combining tradition with measured innovation.
The vineyard
The "Aux Echanges" climat is located at the northern entrance to the village of Chambolle-Musigny, in the lower part of the Premier Cru band. The plot under cultivation covers approximately 0.14 hectares, at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres, benefiting from an ideal southeast exposure. The vines, around fifty years old and Guyot-trained, thrive on shallow, highly calcareous soils dotted with small stones, resting on a bedrock of hard Jurassic limestone.
The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by a late-season heat spike, favouring rapid concentration and optimal physiological ripeness of the berries just before harvest. These climatic conditions required particular attention to preserve freshness and control malic acid levels. During the harvest, a rigorous sorting process was carried out to remove a few bunches affected by rot near the wooded areas, thereby ensuring the impeccable quality of the fruit retained.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking process incorporates meticulous techniques, including new-generation destemming that keeps the berries intact. Partial whole-bunch fermentation is favoured to bring freshness and textural complexity. The wine is then aged in oak for 15 to 18 months, with a measured proportion of around 20% new oak barrels, allowing the terroir to fully express itself.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the region's emblematic grape variety.
