Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Guettes" 2023 from Domaine A.F. Gros
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant translucent ruby hue, enhanced by delicate violet highlights.
Nose
Showing great finesse, the nose opens with aromas of ripe red fruits, such as raspberry and redcurrant, mingled with hints of rose petals. On aeration, it reveals fine complexity with nuances of sandalwood, an earthy minerality and subtle herbaceous notes.
Palate
The palate charms with silky, refined tannins, supported by a refreshing acidity that brings perfect balance. The palate unfolds flavours of fresh red berries and mineral accents. The finish, long and clean, extends on a lovely mineral tension.
Food and wine pairing
This French red wine pairs beautifully with pink duck breast, roasted feathered game such as pheasant or quail, as well as dishes with forest mushrooms or truffles. It also complements roasted poultry in sauce and flavourful cheeses such as Comté or aged goat cheeses.
Service and storage
Approachable in its youth thanks to its silky texture, this Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Guettes" 2023 has the structure needed to evolve gracefully in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2038.
The elegance and precision of a red Burgundy wine
The estate
Founded in 1988 by Anne-Françoise Gros and François Parent, Domaine A.F. Gros is a benchmark in Burgundy. Born from the union of two winegrowing families, this estate based in Pommard has distinguished itself through the quality of its terroirs. Today, the estate is run by the second generation, Caroline and Mathias Parent, who carry on this legacy. Combining respect for tradition with innovation, they craft wines renowned for their purity, elegance and faithful expression of their climats.
The vineyard
Located halfway up the slope, the Savigny-Les-Beaune plot benefits from an ideal south-southeast exposure, at an altitude ranging between 220 and 360 metres. This historic terroir, enclosed by stone walls, sits on limestone soils rich in gravel and pebbles, providing excellent drainage. The vines, some of which are over a hundred years old, were planted using massale selection. The estate favours sustainable viticulture with integrated pest management, working the soil by ploughing to preserve biodiversity.
The vintage
The year 2023 began with spring and early summer showing variable conditions but offering adequate water reserves. The end of the summer season was marked by a heatwave in September, leading to a historically hot harvest. These unusual climatic conditions favoured rapid ripening, resulting in berries rich in sugar with naturally lower acidity.
Winemaking and aging
Following manual harvesting, the berries for this Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Guettes" 2023 are fully destemmed before undergoing a four- to five-day cold maceration to preserve aromatic freshness. Fermentation then takes place over around twenty days in stainless steel, concrete and wooden vats. Aging lasts between 12 and 18 months in French oak barrels, of which around 60 to 65% are new.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
