Description
Tasting Notes and Serving Tips for the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2023 from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful shade of red.
Nose
Discreet in its youth, the bouquet reveals itself as fragrant and complex. It exhales subtle floral notes of iris and violet, harmoniously intertwined with aromas of black fruits, blue fruits such as plum, as well as sweet red berries like cherry. Delicate touches of anise and vine smoke complete this rich olfactory palette.
Palate
The palate offers a medium to full body, distinguished by a fleshy and layered texture. The flavours prove rich and opulent, carried by a particularly seductive velvety texture. This fruity generosity is perfectly balanced by a serious underlying structure and well-integrated tannins, lending great precision to the whole.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great red wine pairs wonderfully with high-quality roasted or grilled red meats, such as beef fillet or veal round, accompanied by root vegetables. After a few years of ageing, it will sublimate more refined dishes such as feathered or furred game, black truffle recipes, or characterful cheeses like Époisses or an aged Comté.
Serving and Ageing
To fully appreciate the complexity of the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 16 to 17°C in large glasses. Built for very long ageing, this wine requires patience and will evolve favourably in the cellar, drinking beautifully until around 2048.
The Floral Elegance and Power of a Great Burgundy Grand Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1450 by Jean Moisson, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is a true institution located in Chambolle-Musigny, at the heart of Burgundy in France. Its current name comes from the alliance with the aristocratic Vogüé family in the 18th century. With an exceptional family continuity spanning twenty generations, the estate is today led by co-managers Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette. Spanning approximately 12.5 hectares, this legendary property is renowned worldwide for its technical rigour and its dedication to expressing the purest expression of its terroirs.
The Vineyard
The Bonnes-Mares Climat extends over an east-facing hillside, at an altitude ranging between 270 and 310 metres. The estate's vines, cultivated according to uncertified organic farming principles, are located exclusively in the Chambolle section of the appellation. Their roots grow in red clay soils, which give the grapes a velvety texture and a characteristic floral profile.
The Vintage
The year 2023 in Burgundy was marked by climatic conditions favouring high ripeness levels. Thanks to well-judged harvest date decisions, this vintage allowed the vines to retain lovely freshness and great energy throughout the growing cycle.
Winemaking and Ageing
The estate's philosophy aims to faithfully express the terroir. For the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2023, extractions are carried out with great precision to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Ageing takes place with sparing use of new oak barrels, structuring the wine while allowing its natural aromatic complexity to express itself.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
